Asthma Affects Breathing

As a kid, teen and adult, I suffered with asthma.  I was hospitalized, given numerous shots and told to stay away from most everything.  Today, I breathe easy, take care of myself and eat almost anything (it has to be healthy food).  Health finally came because I got adjusted and my family follows the DREAM Principle.

Below is some information about asthma. If you came to this page looking for help, you probably already know this stuff.  I would like you to know that I give all the credit for my breathing better to Chiropractic care. So, call our office today 810-225-7246 and We will do our best to make breathing for you or someone you love, Awesome again.

If one doctor can be healed, someone else can too!

Asthma is a disease where the airways narrow causing uncomfortable breathing. The movement of the air to and fro from the lungs is made difficult. The primary problem is the affects on the bronchial tube.  The lungs are in turn affected due to the strain, causing chest pain.

During the inflammation the bronchial tube narrows down, becomes red and swollen, making it uncomfortable. The inflammation can be caused by either pollutants, carcinogens or the allergens in the environment. At times it may be caused due to the chemical mediators like histamine or leucotrienes. As the inflammation gets worse, mucus is formed in the bronchial tube and the passage narrows down causing the flow of air, in and out difficult. With inflammation the cells are damaged and the passage narrows more.

To make matters worse, bronchospasm can occur when muscles around the bronchial tube tighten up and cause more pain and discomfort. All these factors pose difficulty in breathing, inhalation and exhalation and the action becomes laborious and extremely painful.  Sometimes, a wheezing sound may be heard, which will scare the pants off any parent.

This scenario is not a pleasant experience for the person trying to breathe and the parent or loved one watching. I’m certain that my mother must have been freaking out when I had asthma attacks.

Now the good news, asthma is a mal-function not a disease. Actually it is a dis-ease of the normal breathing mechanism. Breathing is controlled in the brainstem located at the back of your skull and top of your spinal cord.  Nerves travel to the lungs along the spinal cord, then out the spine to the bronchial tubes.

In a normal day, your bronchial tubes will expand during stress, and contract during relaxation. All controlled by the brainstem per the situation that you are in at the time.

In a subluxation (choked off brainstem), the neurological expression is altered and a breathing malfunction may occur.  Please remember that the brainstem also controls your other vital organs like your heart, liver, stomach, etc. So, these can also be affected in a negative way.

Daily stressors (people like to call them triggers) can accentuate the neurological dys-function. In the asthmatic – this means a bad day breathing.

Results may vary, but making a drug-free approach to restoring normal breathing can be an Awesome experience.

Asthma Symptoms

Scientist recognize that no two people are the same, and no two people with asthma have the same symptoms.  These symptoms can vary from episode to episode.  When all you want is health, this can be very frustrating for everyone involved.

Let’s list what someone with asthma may experience…

  • Persistent coughing:   this happens especially during night time, disturbing the sleep, and in the early morning period.  This isn’t the place, but there may be a long neurological explanation for this and the doctor would be happy to talk with you personally about it 810-225-7246.
  • Tightness in chest: this feels like a squeezing sensation due to the muscles around the bronchial tubes being deprived of oxygen and going into spasm.  Chest pain and heavy pressure in the chest are frequently experienced.
  • Wheezing:Another commonly reported symptom of asthma.  This is a whistling sound while breathing due to the bronchial constriction affecting the air flow to and from the lungs.
  • Shortness of breath:  the narrowed bronchial tubes make one feel breathlessness and struggling to breathe.
  • Rapid breathing: because the person is not getting the proper amounts of oxygen to the system, the body kicks up the rate at which they breathe.  This in turn stresses the body and is extremely uncomfortable.

All of these symptoms scare everyone. Been there, done that. Not pleasant.

All I can say is thank God for Chiropractic. Maybe you will too.
